Dubai has unveiled ambitious plans to construct over 30 new parks within the next year, as revealed during the Arabian Travel Mart (ATM) held at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
Ahmed Ibrahim AlZarouni, Head of Public Parks and Recreational Facilities Department at Dubai Municipality, disclosed that these parks will encompass a range of sizes, from expansive mega parks to smaller community play areas. He emphasized that these upcoming parks will showcase modern designs akin to the recently inaugurated parks in Al Nahda, Qusais, and Al Warqa, boasting sophisticated layouts and expanded play areas.
Currently boasting more than 190 parks throughout the emirate, Dubai aims to bolster this number to over 70 within the next three years. AlZarouni stressed that these parks will cater to diverse communities, aligning with the objectives outlined in the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which seeks to double the areas allocated for recreational spaces and parks. These green spaces will not only accommodate the burgeoning population but also serve as connectivity hubs linking various service areas, residential districts, and workplaces.
Each park’s design will be tailored to meet the unique needs of its community, taking into account demographic profiles and recreational preferences. For example, parks situated in locales where cricket enjoys popularity will incorporate cricket grounds, while those frequented by basketball enthusiasts will feature dedicated basketball courts. This customized approach ensures that each park effectively meets the requirements of its respective community.
